There are several surgical interventions that involve the creation of an opening in the abdomen (ostomy) and a drawing out of different parts of the intestine: the ileum, the jejunum or the colon forming a stoma, significantly in several types of cancers and a few other surgical conditions too.
Several books on this aspect involving stoma creation intended primarily for the super-specialist surgeons exist. Nevertheless, very little is available in a language and style suitable for the nursing fraternity, the cancer patients with ostomy bags in their abdomen and the other family at-home caregivers, so required for a decent quality of required for the cancer survivor after surgery.
The second Indian book so written, compiled and edited by Indians entitled
“OSTOMY MANAGEMENT & STOMA CARE ”
conceptualised and compiled by Sister C A Saroja, Mr Krithivasan and Mr Sundararajan is being launched in Chennai shortly in the presence of Mrs Chitralekha Rangabashyam and several other ostomy surgeons.
The book published by Impish Lass Publishing House of Mumbai has been edited by Mr S. Nilakanta Siva, himself a bladder cancer conqueror with an ileal conduit ostomy and stoma, and Ms Mousumi K Sachdeva.
